Jaguar‘s extremely fast and extremely good looking XKR-S just got a hell of a lot better with the introduction of a convertible version. The new drop top is, what Jaguar are claiming, the fastest convertible they’ve ever produced and the numbers back this up. You’re looking at a car that can do 0-60 MPH in just 4.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 186 MPH with all that power coming from a supercharged V8 engine producing 550PS.
Design wise you’re not looking at too many changes over the regular XKR-S and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The front air damn gets a re-work and a new rear spoiler will get the back down at high speeds, something early XKR‘s had problems with. Blacked out rims make sure people know it’s a racing variant as do deep bonnet scoops and high performance brake calipers.
The Birmingham based automaker has also been hard at work on the performance seeing as convertible’s have no roof they tend to be prone to bad handling. Luckily the XK has been designed to be a drop-top from day one and so drastic changes are not in order. A liberal use of new aluminium joints and a revised front and rear suspension give the car some added stiffness on what was already a fantastic handling car to begin with.
Jaguar have said that deliveries will begin in the UK at least in early 2012 with prices starting at £103,000.
